Chicken Coop Plans

I’ve been driving myself nuts trying to design a chicken coop. Honestly, there are too many choices and builds online without sufficient details in the plans about materials needed.

So, I drew up my own plans.

My son contributed some pink highlighter to the plans

In my reading, everything said plan on more chickens than you have to account for replenishing your flock. So, we have 9 birds, plan on having 12, so we’re building a coop capable of housing 15.

The coop will be 9×6 ft², with the front side bearing 6 ft tall and the back side measuring 5′ tall so the roof slopes for rain run off.

The run will be 6 ft high x 10 ft wide x 30ft long.

I’m not 100% set on window placement, but am considering moving the window above the egg box to the South side instead of the North.

I’m still working on the materials needed list, but I will definitely include that along with a coop building tutorial once we start building it.

More to come!

  1. We made our own plans for the coop too. I blogged about ours. It’s an A Frame Design and much larger than we needed but plan to grow into it now. Good luck with your coop!
