Today was bee installation day!
1) nucs are way easier than package bees.
2) that’s a LOT of bees.
3) the trepidation goes away after you’ve done it once before.
It was an adrenaline rush for sure, or maybe I’m just a scaredy cat… Either way, I’m happy with how it went.
I had to run to the co-op beforehand to pick up some foundations for my frames. While we were there, my oldest found a miniature cart he was pushing around, browsing.
He stumbled upon their seed display and I hear from behind me, “UHH!!! WATERMELONS!? I want watermelons in my garden!!!” Then, matter of factly, “We’re getting these.”
…we did indeed get them… And some more perennials, and shade loving annuals.
I had to stifle my laughter at his enthusiasm for seeds, and his similarity to me. Oh, son. You do bring me joy.
Anyway, after we got the bees in, me and the boy played in the dirt. He planted his seeds in the potager and I did some weeding. It was a lot of fun. And I figure when it stops being enjoyable will be the day I start taking myself too seriously…. So we don’t have to worry about that happening. Ever.
Then the littles woke from their nap and we made cookies and watched Beauty and the Beast– it was like sharing one of the most blissful moments of my own childhood with them, and they enjoyed it as much as I did! Today was a much needed relaxing, and refreshing day after a tough couple weeks. God is good!
