I have a chore schedule/list that I progress through each week. According to that list, yesterday was living rooms and bedrooms day… no progress was made.
My little dude woke up with a low grade fever that spiked around noon. So, having accepted that nothing was going to get completed, I resigned myself to Chief Snuggler and just cuddled my sick buddy all afternoon. I gave him a luke-warm bath to try to drop the fever some.
He cried insisting that the previous night’s Batman jammies were perfectly clean enough to re-wear so I obliged and let him be The Dark Night. I imagine he thought that if he were Batman, he’d be impervious to sickness, and was thus trying his own remedy. I can only speculate seeing as he doesn’t really speak English yet.
After we had settled down, I popped in “Singin’ In the Rain” because Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds can make anyone feel better. After the children’s Tylenol kicked in a bit and the fever dropped a couple degrees, I noticed that the dancing was contagious and that my sick Batman was now tapdancing about the living room. He must have over exerted himself somewhat, because he returned to my lap and snuggled there for the remainder of the film.
I host a small group Bible study Thursday nights and I was really hoping he’d perk up by evening, but no such luck. So I cancelled and spent the evening snuggling my little man and watching Sesame Street… which by the way, is not nearly as good as it was when I was a kid.
My husband came home from work and we were able to tag team dinner and then put our fuss pot to bed. He didn’t sleep well at all, nor did I. But when I woke up this morning, I had peace. Living out my role as wife and mama is really fulfilling on days like that, especially when I get the love and support of my husband at the end of the day for a job well done.
Here’s to a feverless day!
