I’m getting antsy, y’all. I wanna be out in the garden playing in the dirt!
And since that’s not happening for a couple more weeks, I decided it’s time for planning and inventory.
I got out my little green notebook.
To my pleasant surprise, I found that just about half of my seed Inventory is from my own gardening and saving! Between what we’ve saved and put away and my father-in-law, there were only 4 items I need to purchase this season.
Seeds I’ve saved myself:
- Peas
- Cucumber
- Sage
- Dill
- Lettuce
- Radish
- Green beans
- Luffa gourd
- Butternut squash
- Spinach
- Calendula
- Bachelor Buttons
- Echinacea
I’ve saved tomato and pepper in the past, but because I grew multiple varieties this year, I didn’t bother saving seed because I figured they all cross pollinated and I want heirloom seeds to be true to the parent plant. Seems silly, but I wanted to know which varieties we do best, and then focus on those.
I’m placing my pepper, tomato, and asparagus order later today, and hopefully getting those started indoors in the next week or so. If not… Well… Idk. We’ll see what happens.
Are you teasing us? You said there were 4 items you needed to purchase and then listed peppers, tomatoes, asparagus…what’s the fourth?

It was a test! To see if anyone actually reads these things.
Just kidding. The fourth item were Royal burgundy bush beans! I completely forgot about them. I had some saved from last season, but I can’t find them to save my life!
