Homestead Update

Today has been a fairly standard day in the life of a homestead family. We (and by we, I mostly mean myself) have gotten into the discipline of purchasing more produce than we need in the gardening off season. What do I mean by that? Just that before we really got into homesteading and knew … Continue reading Homestead Update

In My Spare Time

I thought I'd share a list of all the stuff I've been able to do with the time I used To spend handwashing my dishes. Some of you may get a kick out of this, others may not. All I'm saying is, give a homesteader 2 extra hours a day, and WATCH OUT! Finish knitting … Continue reading In My Spare Time

Holidays and Project Updates!

I love when my in-laws visit-- my productivity quadruples! We had a lovely Christmas together, delayed shipping notwithstanding. We even were blessed with a gorgeous Christmas Eve snow!! It's only the 2nd white Christmas I cam recall since we've lived in Tennessee. We also celebrated our Baby Bear's first bear-thday 🐻 And delayed our Christmas … Continue reading Holidays and Project Updates!

Cabbage-Busting Sewing Projects

I'm in the process of moving my sewing paraphernalia to our basement and setting up my workspace downstairs. This gets complicated in several respects: 1) I have 4 children to work around and very little time where my eyeballs can be otherwise engaged away from them. 2) Our basement is semi-leaky because we can't figure … Continue reading Cabbage-Busting Sewing Projects

Advent Poetry: The Turn of the Tides by C.S. Lewis

Hello all! With the weight of anxiety lifted by combination of prayer, preparation and good old-fashioned positivity, I was able to give ponderance to more writings on the incarnation of Christ. Being that C.S. Lewis is one of if not my favorite author, as well as sharing his distaste for all the consumeristic obligation this … Continue reading Advent Poetry: The Turn of the Tides by C.S. Lewis

What’s on the Needles? Project Update

Well here it is, December 12, and I've completed 1 of 5 Christmas gift knitting projects. I'm dangerously close to finishing my oldest son's scarf, and it's going a bit faster than the others because of the guage and yarn I'm using. I'm a shade over halfway done. My daughter's scarf is taking a little … Continue reading What’s on the Needles? Project Update

Happy Thanksgiving 2020

What a year, right? I'm not even talking about the covid stuff. I mean, just personally, for our family, it has been one ordeal after the next, and I know MANY families who've experienced the same thing, many of them to a higher degree than us. I'm so thankful for my husband. I've been learning … Continue reading Happy Thanksgiving 2020

What’s on the needles?

I've long read knitter blogs that chronicle gorgeous projects from cast on to cast off. And never before have I felt worthy to join their ranks. And I still don't! But, as I have 3 scarves and a prayer shawl going, I thought I'd chronicle my progress. I imagine that 5 years from now me … Continue reading What’s on the needles?

B2E vs. Organic Market

Here is a photo of our butternut squash (top) grown in our combo B2E hugulkultur swale versus an organically grown butternut squash (bottom) from the grocery store. A picture is worth a thousand words. The proof is in the produce, folks. And a B2E squash is worth about 3 organic market squashes.
