We spent the morning working outside. My husband hauled mulch while I worked on the weeds in the overgrown potager. As a reminder, it hasn't been under control since we bought the property two years ago. This is what we've gotten done so far:
Today’s Harvest
Busy busy day! I have some bulk cooking to do today! In addition to today's lovely harvest, I also have a fridge full of tomatoes, and butternut squash that needs to be processed before this holiday weekend gets me too busy to pay mind to it. I get asked a lot how I keep up … Continue reading Today’s Harvest

Christian Hospitality
"Above all, love each other deeply because love covers a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling." 1 Peter 4:8-9 After my husband's injury, we received a heap of generosity from our friends, family, and neighbors. Everything from childcare while I went to be with my husband in the hospital, to lawn … Continue reading Christian Hospitality
Taking a Break for Family Time
We've got a pretty seriously injured Papa on the homestead, so we're taking a break from posts for a bit to focus on helping him heal up. By God's grace, the situation was not nearly as bad as it could have been. My husband is feeling well so far, and is in good spirits. We've … Continue reading Taking a Break for Family Time
Family Worship
Our youngest son was dedicated to the Church on Sunday. It wasn't a baptism; as Baptists, we believe that baptism is an outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual grace to be chosen as an act of obedience and commitment to Christ by the believer. So, by God's grace, Henrik will be led … Continue reading Family Worship
Growing and Eating Regionally
Two things about East Tennessee: Even the soil is Volunteer orange. It's a compact clay that is hard as rock! Technically speaking based on annual rainfall, it is a rain forest. Not tropical, but still a rain forest. Fun fact, the reason the mountains appear "smokey" is due to the vast density of trees "respirating" … Continue reading Growing and Eating Regionally
Bringing Chaos into Order
Part of my brand of creativity is organization. Many don't think of organizing as creativity, but it is. Think about it from God's perspective- the first three days of creation were spent organizing! Separating the earth from the sky, gathering the waters together, separating day from night. God brought chaos into order. (Genesis 1:1-16) That … Continue reading Bringing Chaos into Order
Keeping the Kids Engaged
I realized today what a challenge I have ahead of me in keeping each of my children engaged throughout the day. What do I mean by "engaged"? Actively listening, learning, and responding in obedience through structured and unstructured play and instruction. I've noticed that when the majority of my son's day is dedicated to "free" … Continue reading Keeping the Kids Engaged
Canning Day! And Other Updates
Yesterday, we celebrated American independence by canning our own produce. For the first time, we harvested enough blackberries to make jam. Granted, it was only about a half gallon of jam... But it was ours! And that was the exciting part. We also had enough cucumbers come in to do a small batch of pickles … Continue reading Canning Day! And Other Updates
